Château de Rochemorin Red 2021

Presentation

Presentation
Château de Rochemorin belonged to the great philosopher and writer Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu, in the 18th century. Among other famous works, he was the author of the "Persian Letters". Montesquieu was a fine ambassador for the red wines of Rochemorin among his friends, acquaintances and the notables he met during his trips throughout Europe, never forgetting to praise the beautiful complexity and mineral characteristics of his wine, so typical of the Graves terroir. Its beautiful aromatic expression, accompanied by a well-balanced and elegant palate make this one of the most reliable wines in the appellation, while remaining very affordable.
The vintage
2021 was marked by very capricious weather. There was a lot of rain in the spring. An episode of frost at the beginning of April caused major damage. The summer was very mild, with no extreme
heat. At the end of August, fine weather set in, with high temperatures during the day and cool nights: ideal conditions for ripening the grapes. These last few weeks were crucial to the success of this vintage.

Advice

Serving
Serve between 15°C and 17°C
Ageing potential
10 to 15 years
Tasting
A deep cherry-red colour.
The intense nose is dominated by delicious notes of red fruit (cherry) and black fruit (bilberry). When the wine is aired, hints of vanilla and toast, the result of barrel ageing, emerge from the glass.
The attack is marked by a pleasant sweetness. The mid-palate is nicely full-bodied. We find the fruit notes already perceived on the nose and a light, very well-integrated woodiness. Moderately powerful, this is a well-balanced, very harmonious wine. The finish is moderately long, still a little firm but not aggressive.
Food pairings
Barbecued saddle of lamb, pheasant with cabbage, flank steak with onions.

Reviews

90-92/100
"Ripe aroma, cherry, blackcurrant, clean and fresh. Elegant flavour, full-bodied with a fresh aftertaste, clean with ripe, fresh berries."

"Intense purple colour with violet hue and black core. Elegant, rather closed nose, with persistente character, fine fruit blackcurrants and blackberries, aromatics herbs and hints of mild spices. On the palate rather medium bodied yet with very good lenght, fragant fruit, discreet minerality and hints of toasting in the finish. "

"Smooth and so charming, lightly framed in texture and flavour but so well presented, clean and crisp with satin tannins and a slow expansion of aromatics. I like the effortless nature of this, it's not trying too hard but is poised and elegant, just giving enough fruit and acidity to sustain the palate and still give a lifted finish! Nicely done."
