Château La Louvière Red 2021

Presentation

Presentation
Château La Louvière has many fascinating facets. The sumptuous architecture of the château building dates from the late 18th century, but winegrowing here goes back more than 700 years. The first vines were planted circa 1310, although modern winemaking dates from the 17th century and was handed down by able monks from the Carthusian monastery in Bordeaux, who had acquired considerable talent as viticulturists and winemakers. The people who produce the wine in the 21st century have inherited these time-honoured methods, adding just the right amount of innovation and modernity to make the utmost of the outstanding terroir. La Louvière's red wine has a dark colour and an elegant bouquet with delicate hints of oak...
The vintage
2021 was marked by very capricious weather. There was a lot of rain in the spring. An episode of frost at the beginning of April caused major damage. The summer was very mild, with no extreme heat. At the end of August, fine weather set in, with high temperatures during the day and cool nights: ideal conditions for ripening the grapes. These last few weeks were crucial to the success of this vintage.

An attractive cherry-red colour with a few purple highlights.
The nose opens with a woody note, before revealing a beautiful complexity of red and black fruit notes (cherry, blackcurrant). The combination of these aromas is a great success.
On the palate, the attack is straightforward. A lovely volume in the mid-palate makes for a very pleasurable tasting experience. This is a harmonious wine, with well-coated tannins. It is here that the fruit reveals all its complexity and richness. Château La Louvière Red 2021 also has a lovely freshness on the palate.

"The 2021 La Louvière is quite intense on the precise nose of blackberry, wild strawberry, cedar and tobacco scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, fresh and vibrant, leading to an elegant finish. A success in a difficult vintage."

"Floral in nature with accents of tobacco leaf, spice, dark currants, and smoke. The wine is round, polished, soft, and sweet, with plenty of ripe, dark red berries and polished tannins in the medium-bodied finish."

"The epitome of cool blue friuit, on the border of full ripeness, where there is elegance and balance, expertly handled extraction, grilled almond and gunsmoke coming in under the fruit. This is a success, a lean, carefully constructed wine. "
